Highlights - Royal Equestrian & Camel Festival 2011 - Oman

Every five years the Sultan of Oman hosts a large-scale festival of equitation. To realize this gigantic Show Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said counted on German know-how. This knowledge originated – as it often does in horse business – in Mühlen respectively Hagen. Within a few months, the experienced event teams of Ullrich Kasselmann and Paul Schockemöhle managed to create a show with 7.000 actors, 1.540 horses and 740 camels, which even elicited a smile from the usually restrained monarch. 

Starting with the basic concept of the show, our range of services also included supportive training of Oman actors as well as the complete stage management comprising the dramaturgy on-site. Together with the PRG-Production Resource Group we realized an impressive set-up of the event. 

With a length of over 200 m and a width of 140 m the arena of the Maydan al Fath stadium has the appropriate dimensions. The construction of the central stage element was a particular challenge. We developed two arches equipped with spotlights and special effects gear, which flanked the portal of the stage and which could ‘levitate’ to the centre. By this the focus could be narrowed to better stage individual artists.

With a spread of 60 m and a height of over 14 m these ‘moving arches’ were imposing elements manifesting a successful composition of functionality and elegance.
